Qmobile Quadcore's increased number faulty handsets compare to their Dual cores

Qmobile has made its name quite popular in Pakistani mobile phone market, and it is simply now taken as a brand for low budget peoples, But as we all know Qmobile get all these handsets from chinese OEM's and get them rebranded with their logo. and few software tweeks, atleast managing their name inside the device is   major need and tweeks they do.

 As we reported Gfive was the first one to introduce a Quadcore in pakistan at a cheaper priced mediatek SOC, Qmobile nicely followed as per the time frame is concerned. As their was already hype being created for last 4 months, of Quadcore devices from Qmobile, most of Qmobile lovers or experienced with Qmobile did nt go for the option of Gfive G9.

 When Noir A20 arrived in the hands of people it started having issues out of which most common are the faulty SD card. The phone detects SD card as a currupt one or makes it currupt and you will face this problem to every SD card you insert. Qmobile Noir A20 has option of direct saving to external SD card and if it is not playing any application or all the applications on SD card or SD card detects no app i.e empty after rebooting your device. Then Your device is faulty and you should proceed to Qmobile Service center. Remember if this is the problem and you have checked at least 2 SD card facing same problem, then their is no software problem that your device has, and its just a hardware issue. In this situation, you must insist service center to replace your device with a new one.

 One thing to mention here is Gfive G9 was not purchased in high numbers as Qmobile Noir A20 due to its availability and lesser known brand name, but even then their is no single data point we got to be faulty unit and all Gfive G9 are working fine. Beside this Qmobile Noir A20 has troubled its customer's alot. It definitely will disturb the reputaion of Qmobile in the market. But this is what happens when you are not an OEM yourself and rebranding other OEM's handset with your name. The OEM's do not work for you as they do for themselves and result is high concentration of faulty units as we have seen now. We would suggest our readers to hold for a moment and do not buy any of Quadcores until Qmobile get this problem negotiated with the OEM's factory its getting rebranded with its name.

 Other info that we shared in our last aritcle full review of Noir A20 is that its price is kept high at PKR 19,000. Which is atleast PKR 2,000 high compare to the price is being taken in other countries of world where this handset is available with a different branding but the same OEM's factory. Stay tuned for the latest update, and any news as it comes from Qmobile after the issue being negotiated and fixed with the OEM providing these handsets.

Qmobile Noir A20 complete review (The cheapest Quadcore in pakistan)

Qmobile Noir A20 is essentially the cheapest QUADCORE device available in the country, Specification summary is 1.2 ghz  MTK 6589, Quadcore processor with 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage, 8 MP rear camera with 1.3 MP front facing camera, Sporting Screen size of 4.5 inch QHD display, IPS LCD. and 2100 mAH  battery to power on the device. 

Design and usability

Easy to use , sleak design, comes with a back cover as well, the back in the black version is mate finished but as far as we know for white version its glossy finished. Over all build quality is decent but not too great. This is the single reason we are getting it for the low price.

Memory & CPU


The phone comes packed with  a  mediatek  MT6589  1.2 GHz quad-core processor with PowerVR SGX544 GPU and does not lag one bit for the normal usage and game play. One benefit of the device is that it supports apps to be stored to SD card. So memory is not a big issue for this and you can install upto 32 GB card and we are saying after checking 32 GB card but note that card was only 5 GB filled. But installing 32GB card and using along with 5 GB data did n't make it slow or Lag.

 Synthetic Benchmarks

 Noir A20 scores similar to all Quadcore devices available with mediatek Quadcore MTK6589. Antutu Score was 13354, below is image.


Quadrant score was decent at 3785 and 3951, The score of 3951 was before installing different application followed y a lower score when their were already almost 15 to 20 apps downloaded.



Gaming Capability

The 1 GB ram lets you have enough memory for games and apps at the same time. You also get 4GB of internal memory with about 1.7GB available. You would not have any problem installing heavy games. But do nt expect performance similar to S3 chipset, It is a 
quadcore but its performance is below Krait dual cores provided by Qualcom.


 Camera 


 An 8 megapixel camera with LED flash, Lets you take pictures of decent quality it is certailnly better than the dual core phones provided earlier by Qmobile, but its quality is just average compare to any branded phone form Sony, Samsung and HTC, obviously we can not take even name of Nokia's Lumia 920 8 MP camera as none of Android branded companies have been able to compete with 8MP range phones of Lumia 920. The pics were more than decent, But they have colors saturated. They were not able to produce greens and actual red natural colors. We will upload its pictures later, So stay tuned


 Battery life 


 Battery life is decent for a user having 1 hour Wifi. 1 hour gaming and rest 1 hr calls in a total day battery will keep you entertained 20 to 24 hours. Which we think is a decent timing for average to little high end users as other branded handsets have similar or little more timing.


 Price


 Its priced at PKR 19,000, But we hope very soon it should be lowered down to PKR 17000, which is its real price in international market where ever available with different brandings.

 Other Functionalities


 It does not support UTG(usb on the go i.e you can not make it a host for usb devices)But  this phone does support Wifi Hotspot, Goto settings–wireless & networks–more–Tethering & portable hotspot Slide the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot slider to the side to activate it.  Set up the name of your wireless network and create a password and you are ready. Note: ( With wifi hotspot you can connect any wifi supported wifi device with it, while using internet on this device with a sim, Other thing to be known is , Wifi hotspot and normal Wifi do not work at the same time i.e you other will be receiving wifi, or you will emit as a hotspot, dual functionality is not supported, for all the smartphones)

3G Support

 We have already mentioned that this phone supports 3G, as it was rumored or mis informed by other websites and bloggers, just have a look at the option to select between 2G and 3G  here
Final Verdict
It is a decent phone but currently overpriced PKR 2000 in pakistani market, So you should consider this point as well, And as the A600 and next coming Noir A950 with a 4.65 " Amoled plus screen is also in the Que, you should wait a little if you want a quadcore after comparison, and may be you end up buying this phone at a reasonable price of PKR 17,000 very soon.
